Clockwork Lobster is a collection of handmade jewellery, created using a range of vintage materials.

The majority of the pieces are steampunk inspired, using wrist and pocket watches from as far back as the 1800s and have been transformed into elegant and timeless works of art.

The designer, Josie McGilvray is a Nottingham born artist and jewellery maker. Art and jewellery have been a integral element of her life ever since she can remember, from painting with watercolours to making bracelets as a child.

As a young adult Josie became inspired by Salvador Dali's work to take her artistic ambitions further. She studied art in various forms including fine art, 3D art, fashion, and graphic design.

Through a chance find of a broken watch in a vintage jumble store, she fell in love with the intricacies of watch mechanisms, which are now integrated into her creations. She could see the beauty of the inner workings and the opportunity to turn them into unique and elegant jewellery.

Her quest to make these adornments has taken her all over the UK searching for rare antique and beautiful watch mechanisms. Every piece is reborn through Josie's hard work and creative ingenuity.

Each watch, once found, is disassembled and given a fresh lustre through a delicate and time consuming process.

Once the pieces are prepared she adorns them with hand finished embellishments, which not only compliments the original mechanisms but transforms them into timeless and elegant pieces of jewellery.
